Going down--backwards

So you have taken these stairs up and down for 20 years.  You know you can do it in your sleep or blindfolded.  The muscle memories are ingrained in your legs and no thought is needed.  Okay.  Now change things up a bit.  Turn around, look down and head downstairs backwards.  Whoops, no muscle memory here.  Slow down, these old bones may take awhile to learn new tricks but they take even longer to recover from falls.

Dusty Shoes

These shoes have been hiding in the closet for awhile--a long while.  Looks like it is time to dust them off and bring them back to life.

Table Reflections

Several coats of polyurethane make for a table top finish that remains shiny and durable for year after year after year.  In fact, many years after this table was refinished, after several children and many grandchildren, it still maintains its shiny, reflective look.  Yep, polyurethane for durability and long lasting shine.

Go towards the light

Lego Man Joe spends time in lots of different places.  Here he is making his way through the dark following one of his mottos--Go Towards the Light.  Not a bad motto as light vanquishes the darkness where ever it occurs.  May light fill your life today!

Dust Magnet

Seems like just a few days (actually more like a few weeks) and this dresser collects dust like a dust magnet.  Many more weeks like this and I could plant some radishes and have my own indoor garden.  A flashlight laid on the dresser highlights the dust collection.  Gotta go find that dust rag.....

Slalom--it takes guts!

Slalom and downhill on steep, icy, slushy slopes at the Olympic level.  That requires a love of speed, living on the edge (literally), no fear and lots of guts.  The Olympics are winding down.  Another day and I can turn off the TV and go back to normal life again.

Open or Shut?

It's either open or it's shut.  However, with a little tweaking in post processing it turns into a colorful, impressive image compared to the original.

Processing these kind of images takes me back to my childhood days.  As I paint the black and white into the layer my wife asks "What are you doing?"  I respond "Coloring."  And I feel like a little child with a crayon on my hand trying to keep my coloring within the lines.

Empty Candy Dish

Yes, it is the bottom of an empty candy dish.  And yes, I did eat it all.  But no, the dish is not large--in fact, it is pretty small.  So, let's go fill it up again.....

Glass Star-burst

Just playing around with a glass candy dish lid will sitting at the table munching on the peanut M&M candies that filled the dish.  Filled the dish when I sat down anyway.  By the time I finished, of course, there were no candies left.  Ahhhh, but I did get something more than just a belly full of candy coated, chocolate wrapped peanuts.  I got this glass star-burst image for today's post.

Warm weather in the middle of winter

The ice is gone, the wild winter of 2014 is throwing us another curve.  It is going to be near 60 degrees in Salt Lake City today.  What's up with that?  Cloudy but warm.  Just need some sunshine and we'd be out on the boat.....

Standing in line yet again

Life is comprised of many different activities.  One that seems to occur all to often is the all to common instance of standing in line yet again.  As long as I am here I might well take advantage of the moment and create a post for my daily image blog.  No problem since I have my best camera with me--after all the "best" camera is the one you always have with you.  A bit of post processing and here you have it.....

Toasty

Sleeping cold?  Ice storms have you cold to the bone?  Can't quite warm up this winter?  Polar vortex taxing your furnace?  Lego man Joe found a solution that works for him.  His favorite place now is lying on top of the hair blow dryer.  Yes, it is a little windy but oh how toasty.....

Look ma, no hands...

During the cold weather one might as well take advantage and do the cold weather things.  This image is from a local outdoor ice skating rink.  Albeit a small rink, the kids love it until they get so cold they have to quit.  This little gal is doing her best as she learns to keep her feet underneath her...

Cake Decorator Meets Finger Painter

So you are a 19 year-old young woman with frosting leftover from decorating your birthday cake.  Being a bit artsy, you find new uses for the excess frosting.  A bit of hand decorating--followed by some finger painting tricks you learned back in kindergarten--and there you have it--your mark left on the kitchen counter.  What a way to spend your birthday?

Having the right tool makes all the difference

This hairbrush is one of my wife's indispensable tools for her morning ritual.  Of course I don't have to go through that lengthy hair preparation project since my hair is short--two to three minutes is all it takes after the shower.  But for those who work it for just the right look to greet the day and spend 100 hours per year to look good (that's just under 16.5 minutes per day), having the right tool makes all the difference.  It's a lesson I learned a long time ago in the garage and it applies everywhere else--even in front of the bathroom mirror.

Snow & Ice Melt--yes, even in Texas

Winter 2014--the year snow & ice melt became a household commodity in the Continental U.S.  If you had some, you did not have enough.  If you did not have any, you really needed some anyway.  If you live in Southern California you have no empathy for the rest of the country and cannot relate.....

The door stops here

Once adjusted appropriately this keeps the door within its acceptable boundaries of movement.  The door stops here.  Hmmmm, got me thinking, "Have I put mechanisms in place to keep my life actions within the acceptable boundaries I choose, in quiet moments of meditation and prayer, before being buffeted by the temptations that surround me?"

The incandescent light bulb--a dying breed

The incandescent light bulb--a dying breed.  It is getting harder and harder to find my incandescent light bulbs of choice.  Big brother knows better what I should be able to buy and what I should not be able to buy.  Unfortunately these type of bulbs are in the "should not" pile and are slowly disappearing from store shelves. Enjoy them while you still can.....
